Mechanical Engineer II

JOB DESCRIPTION: Work safety in all aspects of job and design safety into all work done. Work closely with and under the supervision of other Engineering, Maintenance, and/or Operations personnel to carry out ongoing day-to-day maintenance support and to assist in the development and implementation of various small projects. Work with internal or external craftsmen to perform preventive and/or predictive maintenance functions on simple production equipment or portions of complex production equipment. Evaluate results of preventive and predictive maintenance activities to assure activities are being correctly carried out and to identify chronic problems that need addressed. Supervise internal or external craftsmen for installation, troubleshooting, repair and enhancement of equipment within the assigned area. Work with internal or external craftsmen to troubleshoot and repair equipment malfunctions and review to identify chronic problems that need addressed. Perform limited design work and material/equipment selection for equipment repairs, enhancements and replacements as required. Monitor process capabilities of simple production systems and identify opportunities for process improvement. Develop cost estimates for small projects or portions of larger projects within assigned area. Write funding requests for small projects and participate in writing of funding requests for larger projects within assigned area. Communicate effectively throughout all levels of the organization as required.
QUALITIES AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Assertive and goal oriented. A self starter with positive attitude. Strong communication, organizational, interpersonal and analytical skills. Must be organized and capable of handling multiple tasks and priorities. Must be capable of using personal computers and Microsoft software. Bachelor's degree from 4-year college or university in Engineering or Engineering Technology or similar degree plus 2-4 years applicable experience in heavy industry, preferably heavy manufacturing.
